Song Rec: Sweet Blue by Cleo Sol
Sweet Blue was one of the first introductions I had to Cleo Sol. So far as I am diving deeper into her discography for the first time, it still remains as one of my favorites, if not my actual favorite, song from her. The laid-back hip-hop-inspired beat backing her just makes the track for me when you marry that with how sweet her voice is. The piano is just as tantalizing as the backing vocals, and I love the line “I love you more than once, a thousand more lifetimes.” It’s stunning, but its still got a bite to it. I think that’s why I love this song so much.

Song Rec: HOP OUT CHO FEELINS by Kal Banx, Smino, & Buddy
An instant classic for me. Hop Out Cho Feelins sounds like something I would’ve grew up on, this is the type of rap I’m drawn to. The production on this one is so heavy, especially when the beat kicks in, and the way everybody flows is why I keep coming back to this song to add it into the queue. The chorus gets stuck in my head like crazy and I love the sample and the harmonizing. Everything about this song is just too fucking good.

Song Rec: Are You Looking Up by Mk.gee
Mk.gee really was a shocking find for me. I’ve heard of Mk.gee, but this song really hit me heavy with the “where the hell have I been???” feeling. This carries the attitude of something from the 80s, it has an intimate feeling with the instrumentation. It’s very subtle and feels really good to hear. I also really love Mk.gee’s voice and the raspiness that’s there. This one is a really easy revisit that’s opened the door to a new artist I’m about to fall in love with. Tracks that have an older feel to them always get me and hook me until I’m listening to the same song over and over. This is headed in that very direction.

Hey, my name is Raine!
I’ve always had a deep passion for music—I remember the day my great grandma gifted me my first acoustic guitar when I was a kid. I’m learning how to play, albeit a bit late, on a telecaster today, and I’m learning how to write my own songs. I remember signing at the top of my lungs in the back seat of mom’s car a few years after, headphones on and cd player running. I remember rushing to get home from school to listen to radio disney and log into habbo hotel, haha.
In august of 2024 I decided to broaden my musical pallet and challenge myself to listen to albums that are new to me that I’ve never heard before, regardless of the genre or when they were first released. I’m very into music curation, so discovering new music is everything to me. I love making playlists and sharing good music that i’ve found that excites me. This blog is my anchor for music discovery and community, which is also incredibly important to me. Thanks for being here and I can’t wait to share some really music with you!
